Vale of the White Horse Run - 8th June 2003
Start
The start is located in Faringdon, from the A420 roundabout head into the town, straight across the first roundabout and then right at the next (one way). The car park is almost immediately on your left. Route directions can be found here, or for the non-navigationally challenged follow the maps below. We're aiming to leave the start at 11am.
Stage 1
This takes in the oldest carving of the Uffington Horse, visible between Fernham and Uffington. Skirts Swindon and runs fairly close to the Wroughton Airfield, which many of you will be familiar with. The Broad Town horse is also visible over your right shoulder after leaving the town itself, or in front of you shortly afterwards. The route then heads towards Cherhill, where the Monument and third horse are visible whilst on the A4. Watch for the boys in blue, as Avebury is a biker haunt, and speeding tickets are easy to dish out! Past Silbury Hill, who knows what it was for, and then up The Avenue to the Avebury stone ring. Past the Broad Hinton horse, along a road used on previous runs into Marlborough for lunch. Just under 60 miles. The Fifth horse is in Marlborough not visible from the road, but the adventurous can walk to see it down a footpath near the Citroen garage mentioned in the route instructions.

Stage 2
From Marlborough through Pewsey and out the other side to the sixth horse, on the left on the way up the hill. Through Upavon and back towards Pewsey before heading towards the Alton Barnes horse, on the right after the village. The newest horse, cut for 2000 can be seen to the right after the hump back bridge jump! Next head for Westbury and the ninth a final horse of the day, the best view is from the car park mentioned in the route, or by screwing your head over your left shoulder whilst trying to stay on the road and not hit the car in front. Finally a short blast to the finish at Lacock Abbey, recently made famous by the filming of the Harry Potter series. Just under 70 miles.

Leaving the car park and turning left will take you to the A350 giving routes south towards Poole, north and then west on the A4 or north to M4 J17 and beyond
