numbers

Example: WPOZZZ 91 ZES 10 4033 - European 911 Coupe from 1984

The 7th,8th and 12 digit represent the model code. Therefore a 911 will be WPOZZZ91Z?S1?????; a Turbo (930) will be WPOZZZ93ZS?0????; similarly a 964, 993, 996 and 986 (Boxster).

The 10th character gives the model year the car:

  • A=1980; B=1981; C=1982; D=1983; E=1984; F=1985; G=1986; H=1987; J=1988; K=1989; L=1990; M=1991; N=1992; P=1993; R=1994; S=1995; T=1996; V=1997; W=1998;X=1999; Y=2000; then it changes to a more simple format 1=2001; 2=2002 etc.

The number in front of the serial number is the model type code:

  • 10 - European Coupe
  • 12 - US Coupe
  • 14 - European Targa
  • 15 - European Cabriolet
  • 16 - US Targa
  • 17 - US Cabriolet
