In the former GDR Heinz Melkus built from the basis of the Wartburg saloon racing cars and GT coupes. The Melkus RS is a rare example of a racecar from the GDR. The 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine with a cylinder capacity of 992ccm gave 75 or 90 hp, according to version. Due to fibreglass bodywork, the vehicle weighed only 690kg and could do 165kph
